NordicTrack® treadmills Review

If you are looking for a treadmill, which is inexpensive but rich in features, the NordicTrack range will suit you perfectly. Nordic has a comprehensive list of features. Unfortunately, this is not enough for a good treadmill. Nordic suffers on some counts like quality and warranty.

NordicTrack is produced and marketed by Icon Health and Fitness, the biggest producer of exercise equipment in the world. Other brands they produce include big names like Weslo, Reebok, ProForm and Health Rider. NordicTrack became popular 20 years ago with ski fitness equipment. But the novelty of home ski machines wore off so the company decided to produce exercise equipment like treadmills. In fact, the original NordicTrack Company went bankrupt because of which they tied up with Icon to produce exercise equipment.

Ranging from $1000 to $2000, Nordic can be classified as a mid-price range machine. They are also described as feature laden because of a number of high-end features that come at this low price.

The Decks use what is called as the amazing “Reflex Deck technology”. This refers to a mechanism whereby the deck flattens to absorb the impact of your feet and springs back to its original shape giving an upward thrust. This technology does wonders to minimize the damage to your feet and joints while working out.

The electronic consoles on a NordicTrack are comparable to treadmills in clubs and gyms with a good array of readouts and preset programs. Elements such as motor duty and roomy deck size also compare favorably with rival brand Smooth.

The iFit compatibility facility is available in all models. It allows you to connect your machine to the Internet via a computer and download new programs down to the machine for additional fees.

Cardio Grip heart Rate monitor helps take accurate pulse readings by mere gripping the handlebars through the sensors attached there. Some pulse driven programs respond to and maintain target heart rate.

A good indication of the quality of any treadmill is the warranty on the machine. NordicTrack has what is called a 3-2-1 warranty , which covers motor for 3 years, parts for 2 years and labor for 1 year.

Some deluxe workout features they pack into their machines are as follows-

  • TV’s
  • iFit compatibility
  • CoolAire workout fans
  • Built in workout programs
  • Personal Profile center
  • Odometer with miles tracker
  • Carb counter.

Reviews of Nordic track have mostly been positive especially about the Reflex Deck technology and the quietness of the machine. The design and look have also been praised. Yet, the weaknesses of the model have also come forth.

The quality of the parts have been questioned and blamed for the frequency of wear and tear and repairs. Repairs are also expensive compared to other models. Warranty is said to be poor in comparison to rival models like Smooth. NordicTrack misses steps on basic essentials of a solid treadmill like-strong motor power, lengthy warranty, heavy user weights and high stability.

However Nordic has introduced many improvements in recent times earning the name of “most improved treadmill brand”. New models like 2200 R and the 7000 R are covered by different warrantys including a lifelong motor warranty. This makes the NordicTrack treadmill a sensational buy.
